SYDNEY, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — A four-year-old girl has been flown to hospital after being bitten by a dingo at a famous tourist island in Australia’s state of Queensland on Saturday.
The girl was attacked when fishing off the beach with a large family group on the eastern side of the K’gari island (formerly Fraser Island) at 11:15 a.m. local time on Saturday, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) quoted environment department rangers as saying.
A spokesperson from the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation said the rangers were told dingoes had been loitering near the family that included eight children.
The toddler girl was grabbed by a dingo around the chest area, causing cuts, bruising and a puncture wound.
She was examined by a nearby doctor and treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics before being rushed to hospital.
She remains in a stable condition, said local media Brisbane Times.
The spokesperson said a male dingo was involved in the attack and was monitored by the rangers. They will investigate the attack. ■
